Windows 7 Start Orb Changer v3 is available and it fixes the "GDI+" bug so please download it again.

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer is a free tiny portable tool that allows you to change your Windows 7 start orb with just one click. No need to manually do anything! Just run it as administrator, select your start orb bitmap and you are done.

There are 2 files and 1 folder in the archive:

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.exe - The main executable file

Sample Orbs - Contains 38 sample start orb bitmaps

r.exe - Used by the tool to replace the start orb bitmaps

If you don't have any start orb bitmaps, you can use Google to find it and I have also added some sample start orb bitmaps in it. The start orb bitmaps which I have provided are not created by me and the full credit goes to the original authors (See Credits.txt for more info). If you want to restore the original start orb back then change the orb to the first sample start orb bitmap in the Sample Orbs folder.

The 2 files "Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.exe" & "r.exe" should stay in the same folder to work. It works with both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. If you find any bugs, just inform me about it.

Fixed the "GDI+" bug. For this, the support for .jpg, .png & .gif image file types is gone.

The explorer can now automatically restart itself. No need to click on Start Explorer anymore.

Added an option to backup the unmodified explorer. The backup is stored as explorer_backup.exe.

I think it doesn't work on OSes other than in English. My OS is in french and got an error popup. It says it supports 64bit but it's not working on mine. Can anyone confirm that it works on x64?

Daniel use a program called Resource Tuner it allows you to open the exe or dll file and change it there a bit of work but it works I will post a link for a "free" copy....lol

You're right DR I thinki the problem is the OS language.
My Win7 is French as well and I had to manually patch my explorer.exe file.

I used reflector to view the source of the program and saw that the command to take ownership of explorer.exe was : takeown /f explorer.exe && icacls /grant administrators:F or something like that.
I had to replace "administrators" by "administrateurs" and did all other commands manually.
But The exception message seems no related to the execution of that command.

If you want to do the trick manually I would advise that you download fixShell.exe first as I experienced a blank screen at boot time after editing my explorer.exe file.
I booted windows in command line mode and started fixShell.exe and everything went back to normal.
Now my explorer.exe file is owned by Administrators and everyone as full control over it :\ But my windows boots normally
