Download Windows Virtual PC RC and Windows XP Mode RC

Windows Virtual PC provides the capability to run multiple Windows environments such as Windows XP Mode from your Windows 7 desktop. To download Windows Virtual PC and the Windows XP Mode environment, please follow the steps below. I can't believe that I can't use this Windows XP Mode thing. I upgraded my system a little while back from an AMD 6000+ Dual Core to an Intel Q8200 Quad. Now I find that this processor is not compatible with this XP Mode. The first time in 15 years that I have used an Intel based chip and I find that it's already let me down. I should have stuck with AMD.

Hmm, Well I've got a Phenom 9950 on a Gigabyte GA-M750SLI-DS4 motherboard with virtualisation enabled and the Virtual PC and XP mode doesn't work for me either.

For the person that has the Quad Core Intel Q8200. go to your Bios and enable VT . Windows XP mode needs VT turned on

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 cpu and there is no such thing as VT in the BIOS. The manual shows it but whe I check the BIOS itself - not there. Must take only certain BIOS to get it.

I almost got the 8200 at the begining of this year.
However, I made sure to look if the cpu had support for hardware virtualization.
It did not, so I got a q6600 instead.  Good thing too.

Must be a setting or your MB not compatible then. I have Phen 9950 with Asus m3nht/hdmi works okay for me, did you enable in bios amd virtulization/vt under your advanced bios setting enable virtualisation

Only you can answer your question. You will have to go into the BIOS and at 'Advanced BIOS Features' > 'CPU Feature'  see if there is an option: Virtualization Technology - Enabled/Disabled

If it's there - you have the feature.

intel has a page out on the web that lists all their processors and if they support VT or not.

Its there... You need to search in the features to find it,

Look under  Frequency / Voltage  then cpu feature

mosy of the lates intel cpus  have got em64 instuctions native support , means  they can work in 64 bit mode

anyone can sneak in cpu-z and see the instructions listed

For the person using the Q9650..I downloaded it..installed it, and it works quite well for me. I'm using duel monitors and from what I can tell that is the way to go, I can drag from win7 desktop to xp desktop. It's like having a duel boot PC but at the same time. I did find out one thing though..The only way I could get it to run was with a fresh install of the win7 untouched ISO.

I ve been in bios settings once only and did not see virtualization settings at all . I use vmWare workstation as virtual machine and I ran all the windows on it xp vista etc . It even has settings to keep hdd as nonpersistant ( for software testing purposes ) all the changes to virtual windows are discarded when you shutdown it even supports aero settings on virtual windows

Hello all,

I have look in my Bios and i go to at 'Advanced BIOS Features' > 'CPU Feature'
but i see there not the option enebled/disabled, but i can run xp mode in windows 7 Ultimate
with no problems, i have an AMD+2 CPU and i can upgrade it to AMD+3
and its a 64Bit version and the speed is 2,9GHZ and all working very fine and the sata Harddisks
